Book premiere in Berlin: Michael Andrick presents “I am not there” and talks with Moritz Eichhorn

On July 15, 2025, philosopher Michael Andrick will present his new book "I'm Not There. Notes for a Free Spirit" at the Pfefferberg Theater.
He is one of Germany's most insightful and trenchant authors: Michael Andrick. His columns in the Berliner Zeitung promote discussions that hardly anyone else would want to have. Whether it's about the state of German democracy or the failure to address the coronavirus pandemic, Andrick puts his finger on the sore spot, provokes, stimulates reflection, and often even dissent – thus promoting what the German media debate urgently needs: an open-ended discussion about the most pressing issues of our time.
Andrick's last work, "Im Moralgefängnis," in which the author illuminates the crisis of political discussion culture in Germany, landed on the Spiegel bestseller list. His next book, "Ich bin nicht dabei. Denk-Schettel für einen freien Geist," has now been published and brings together recent essays on the present. Reviewer Boban Dukic wrote of the work in the Berliner Zeitung: "Andrick's book is a plea for the free spirit—a call to critical thinking, which is becoming increasingly rare and all the more precious in an increasingly hysterical society." In his essays, Andrick addresses topics such as the firewall debate and the aftermath of the pandemic: issues that affect the core of our society.
On July 15, 2025, Michael Andrick will celebrate his book premiere at the Pfefferberg Theater in Berlin-Mitte. He will not only read passages from the book but also answer questions from Moritz Eichhorn, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Berliner Zeitung. What is the essence of democracy? How can divides be overcome? What can we learn from the AfD debate? How can we discuss controversial topics meaningfully and meaningfully without falling into enemy mentality—be it with regard to migration, the coronavirus, or the war in Ukraine? Michael Andrick will answer questions and respond to comments from the audience.
